Foreclosure Help for Homeowners / Stop Foreclosure

This section of our site is to help you, as a homeowner, learn about foreclosure prevention counseling and how it can help you preserve your stake in homeownership. We’ll take you through the counseling session process – before, during and after - so that you are prepared and know what to expect. Still not sure if it’s worth it to pick up the phone? Consider these facts:

  • HPF is a nonprofit, so the help we offer is always free and it’s always available, 24/7.
  • HPF has a committed partnership of nonprofit agencies and more than 550 certified housing counselors who are ready to take your call on the Homeowner’s HOPE™ Hotline.
  • Homeowners who participate in housing counseling services are 60% more likely to avoid foreclosure (Urban Institute Study 2009).
  • 70% of homeowners counseled by the Homeowner’s HOPE™ Hotline avoid foreclosure one year after receiving counseling (CCCS Greater Atlanta Study 2009).

Call the Homeowner’s HOPE™ Hotline 888-995-HOPE™ to learn more. The Homeowner’s HOPE™ Hotline has helped more than 4 million distressed homeowners since the beginning of the financial crisis. Every day, 5,500 homeowners call the Hotline for foreclosure help. Foreclosure prevention counseling:

  • Provides education. Better educated homeowners are more equipped to handle their situations.
  • Follows quality assurance standards, is individualized and is comprehensive.
  • Helps homeowners understand their current mortgage situation and gives them insight into any underlying financial problems. Often, this insight can help homeowners turn around their current situations and avoid future financial difficulties.
  • Assists homeowners in exploring all available options to avoid foreclosure, including modifications, short sales, repayment plans and government programs.
  • Provides homeowners with additional resources (http://www.995hope.org/help-for-homeowners/homeowner-resources/ ) and options. In 95% of HPF cases, homeowners are linked to other local services that can assist them. Most often, the link is directly to the servicer.
  • Provides an action plan. Without action, there is no resolution.
  • Provides confirmation, hope, and guidance throughout the process.
