The Federal Government provides free resources to struggling homeowners to help them learn about options under the Making Home Affordable program, and to work with a HUD-approved housing counselor. Since the program launch, over one million homeowners have received help. These Public Service Announcements feature real homeowners who have benefited from the foreclosure prevention program, and encourages homeowners that are struggling with their mortgage payments to call 1-888-995-HOPE (4673) to learn about their options.

I'm a construction worker and this is the first piece of property I've purchased and for a good 1 6 months I was tied up trying to bring it up-to-date. In December of '09 I was laid off from my job and, at which point, all my reserved cash I had to use and my niece said there was a program out there. On one of the websites she was researching, she got some information and she passed it on to me. I contacted the bank and I asked them if they were a part of the Making Home Affordable Program and they said yes. When I realized that the program could actually work to assist me as well as other homeowners on what's free to homeowners, I was relieved knowing that this help is there and this assisted me in a way that I never thought was possible. They lowered my mortgage by a good $ 1 ,500 and my interest rate - I'm going from like8 percent down to 5 - and I'm able to make my payments and do other things financially that I was unable to do before. I've been involved with the Making Home Affordable Program since December of '09and I would advise any family member, or anyone for that matter, that needs the help: Go out there and seek help if they need it. Don't hesitate and don't fall victim to somebody calling you over the phone. It is there to assist them, not to add to their burden but rather to help relieve it. I'm finally at a point where I can get some breathing room and I am relieved of the pressure that was on my shoulders for such a long time. I am very grateful and overjoyed to know that they're there to assist homeowners such as myself who are facing difficult times and it's good to know that we can come out of it alright. It's good to know that.
